Eight Amazing Penis Facts

Seven Amazing Penis Facts

The penis has been the object curiosity, amusement and amazement since the dawn of humanity. Even with all of this interest, it has been considered to be taboo in the modern era. This has led to a lot of misinformation that has become mainstream. With that in mind here are seven amazing penis facts.

The Average Penis Size

The “Am I Normal” study conducted as a collaboration between King’s College London and the NHS looked at multiple penis size studies. For study integrity, they used only studies that involved the professional measurement of the penis length and circumference. This eliminates the inaccuracies of some studies where men measure themselves. Surprisingly, men may not always be honest about their penis size.

In total, this study took into account the measurement of 15,521 men from multiple studies. According to the gathered data, the average length of a penis is 5.16″ when erect and 3.6″ when flaccid. The average circumference was 4.59″ when erect and 3.67″ when flaccid.

Why do so many people think that the average penis is 6 inches? You can thank the famous penis size survey by Alfred Kinsey in the 1940’s. His study gave an average penis size of 6.21″. One big factor that may have influenced the data was that the men reported their own measured size and it was not verified by professionals. This may account for that extra inch. (source)

What Size Penis do Women Prefer?

This study of American women involved the use of 3D penis models to find the penis size preference of women. Researchers found that the use of the 3D models was more accurate than the use of 2D pictures as the women were much more likely to recall sizes accurately.

This study determined that women preferred a penis that was significantly larger than the average penis. For a relationship partner, the study found that the participant preferred a penis that was on average 6.3 inches in length and 4.8 inches in circumference. Surprisingly the women preferred a slightly larger penis for a one night stand. For the one night stands, they preferred an average length of 6.4 inches and an average circumference of 5 inches (source).

This means by volume (basically taking in account both length and width) women prefer a penis significantly larger than the average penis. In a relationship, they prefer one that is 36% bigger that the average. For a one time relationship, they prefer one 53% bigger than average. That puts a lot of pressure on guys. Erections Prevent Shrinkage

Your penis needs erections to keep it healthy and at a larger size. The smooth muscle of the penis needs to be enriched with oxygen brought in by the blood during an erection.

Your nighttime/morning erections that occur during REM sleep keep the penis supplied with the oxygen to keep it healthy. If you do not get normal nocturnal erections, you should speak with your primary care doctor.

Lack of erections will lead to the penis tissue becoming less elastic and lead to shrinkage. Tobias Kohler, MD, assistant professor of urology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, states that “If they don’t do anything to maintain normal erections, they will get shortening of the penis,” (Source: WebMD )

No Correlation between foot size and penis size

According to a study by the British Journal of Urology International, penis size is not proportionate to shoe size. Researchers measured the penises of 104 men from different age groups. The found the average penis to be 5.1″ long when gently stretched and an average shoe size was 9. But there was no correlation found between the two. (source)

The Penis is not a Muscle

Even though we may call it the main muscle or the love muscle, the penis is not a muscle. The penis is similar to sponge that fills with blood when the man is sexually excited. Blood fills up two chambers called the corpus cavernosa. This causes the penis to become hard and erect. The swelling of the erection block off the veins that normally drain the blood away. As the erection subsides, the arteries in the two chambers are able to widen out and allow the blood to escape from the penis. (source: https://www.nhs.uk/)

Which way does your erection go?

Studies show that the angle of erections are pretty well spread out from almost straight up to almost straight down. In the figures below, if the penis pointed directly up, it was measured as 0 degrees, and if it was forward-pointing (horizontal), it would be 90 degrees:

  • 0–30 degrees — 4.9 percent of men
  • 30–60 degrees — 29.6 percent of men
  • 60–85 degrees — 30.9 percent of men
  • 85–95 degrees — 9.9 percent of men
  • 95–120 degrees — 19.8 percent of men
  • 120–180 degrees — 4.9 percent of men

The data was gathered from a study of 1,565 men. So no matter what angle you point, you are normal (source).

The One Way to Lengthen the Penis

There is only one way that has been shown to increase the length of the erect penis. This method is through the use of penis traction devices. Unfortunately, these results are not quick or easy to achieve. Most studies involve the use of these devices for six hours per day for up to six months. With the use of these devices studies have shown gains of 0.5 inches to 1.25 inches after four months of use (source).

Even when cosmetic surgeons perform suspensory ligament surgery to lengthen the penis, the use of a penis traction device is needed to get penis lengthening. In order to obtain maximum gains, it is recommended to find a high quality penis traction device to maximize gains. The amount of time required to obtain results makes it essential to find a device that will consistently and comfortably stay in place. (source: Do Penis Traction Devices work?)

You have multiple erections while you sleep

An average healthy man has between 3 and 5 erections per night. These erections usually last between 25 and 35 minutes. Many men are used to their morning erection but do not realize that it is part of a series of erections.

The exact cause of the nightly erections is not completely understood. Studies lead researchers to believe that the erections are linked to the type of sleep associated with sleep known as rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

The cause of night-time erections isn’t fully understood. But studies suggest they’re closely associated with the phase of sleep known as rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This is the stage of sleep when dreaming is most common. (source: https://www.nhs.uk/)
